<<What is it?>>
The 0GP Project officially started on the 1st November 2007 during a conversation about low GP horses between myself and SDPG_SSM. An idea formed about the presence of a lower bound of GP that could be reached and perhaps even the existence of an illusive 0GP 'super horse' or 'monster' as s/he has both been named.
It turned out that a small number of other people were also interested, or already had similar plans to find low GP horses around and we've also banded together to see if we can get this 'Project' off the ground, or down in the GP rankings, so to speak.
<<Who is it?>>
Literally a group of people, suitably curious enough to do this experiment but aware of what it entails.
<<What's the point?>>
The aim is to try and get lower and lower GP horses by doing the following;
-not playing with young foals
-breeding with negative blup
-breeding as close a spossible to 2y6months
-avoiding any activity that increases BLUP (except for aging which is inevitable)
-crossbreeding against the top skills to try and reduce the overall spread of skills.
All in the aim to see if we can get to the 0GP horse.
<<The 0GP horse>>
So far this horse is a myth as the baseline Gp could easily turn out to be a very disappointing 300GP or so. However it's theoretical existence produces a wonderful idea. A horse with 0GP in theory would and could not learn any skills in theory (not including inborn skill or skills from riding lessons) as the GP limit for the horse would be 0. In that case at birth the foal, in theory, would have six bolded skills.
As there would be no specific top 3 for the horse if all are 0 then bolding all 6 may be what is required to replace the 3 bolds needed for 100BLUP. Then, if the foal were to reach 10 years, the second requirement of 100BLUP would be fulfilled. The only barrier to 100BLUP for a 0GP horse would be competition wins because of the lack of skills and because it's unclear and unknown which 2 skills would gain skills from riding lessons, or if any would be gained at all.
Because of this it is possible that the 0GP horse will infact remain a myth, however we're aware of this and are out to find out if it would or not, or what actually the baseline is.
<<So how long will this madness take?>>
I'd love to be able to tell you, but I don't really know. If the limit is really 0GP then it could take years but if it turns out to be something much higher then it could be sooner. At least it'll be fun in the process
